RYA Powerboat Instructor Course

Thank you for your interest in the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Instructors Course:

Date: Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th May 2013. approx. 8.30am to 6.30pm Venue: Coastguard Boating Education, Westhaven, Auckland.

Course places are limited so please return your completed application and payment as soon as possible to secure your place and ensure we are able to supply your course materials in good time for you to prepare for your course.

The instructor's course will include theoretical and practical training to deliver the RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2 courses. Your theoretical knowledge will be assessed to the standard of the RYA Day Skipper shore based certificate, the equivalent of the CBE Boatmaster certificate. You will also be required to demonstrate your practical boat driving skills and ability to plan and execute lessons. Instructor candidates will be expected to demonstrate their ability to the level of CAN in all aspects of the Level 2 syllabus as described in the Powerboat Logbook G15.

Please see the attached agenda.

To assist with the above please make yourself familiar with the RYA Publications supplied as part of the course cost: * G20 - Powerboat logbook and syllabus * G19 - Powerboating instructors handbook * G48 - RYA Start powerboating

If you do not meet the following pre requests then please contact me asap to make arrangements. - Hold a recent RYA powerboat level 2 or higher qualification. - 1st Aid Qualification (including hypothermia). - Completed a minimum of 1 season driving small powerboats, so competent to demonstrate practical boat handling (see attached course content) - Gained some teaching experience

Participation on this course is not a guarantee of becoming an RYA Powerboat level 1&2 instructor, during the course your progress will be reviewed and shared with you. This is to allow you to be aware of and remain focused on any weak areas as well as developing your strengths. During the 1st 2 days I will be training and continually assessing you so that fair feedback can be given, on day 3 a second instructor/trainer participates in the course. This is so we can provide you with balanced and clear feedback as well as double checking that all key areas have been covered to the high RYA standard.

It is usual that after the instructor course candidates leave with an action plan covering areas to work on to become an even better instructor or areas to work on to meet the required standard. We (Coastguard Boating Education, the RYA and myself) are then available to support both short and long term as you start a career as an RYA instructor.

If you have any questions at all regarding your booking please do not hesitate to call me 0800 486 729, text 0275 369 807

I'm looking forward to running this instructor course for you and assisting you into the industry that I've been lucky to enjoy for 20years.

Pete
