    RYA Powerboat & PWC Training

Elements Watersports is an RYA Powerboat and PWC Training Centre and the only training centre in NZ accredited to deliver the RYA Safety boat course.

All Elements Powerboat & PWC instructors are fully qualified and experienced, providing you with a high standard of tuition, either as private own boat tuition, or in groups of up to 3.

With the ever increasing growth of commercial regulations, be sure to talk to us about how we are able to assist you in training your staff to ensure you are meeting your MNZ requirements.

Our Power boat courses will help make you a proficient and confident boat driver.

Whether you want to drive small ribs, sports boats, or small launches, for fishing, waterskiing or wakeboarding, or become a support boat driver for safety cover at your local Sailing or Rowing club, or you require your ICC certificate for chartering overseas, Elements can provide the practical and navigational courses you need to increase your skills.

Elements professional instructors can take you through the Internationally recognised RYA Powerboat levels 1 & 2, Intermediate and Advanced courses, coaching you through choosing the right boat for your needs, pre trip boat checks, launching and retrieval, to coastal pilotage, navigation and advanced boat handling techniques.

Depending on your experience you can choose which level you take, Level 2 being the most popular.

The RYA Powerboat qualifications are essential for anyone thinking of working in the Watersports Industry here in NZ or overseas, or who are looking at working in the Super yacht industry.

You can also use these courses as a progression to the RYA certificates of competence and ICC which are recognised by maritime authorities worldwide.

The ICC is now available to NZ Citizens

The International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft (known as an ICC) is now available to New Zealand citizens.

If you are planning to charter a sail or Powerboat in Europe and currently have boating experience but no international certificate the ICC is the cheapest and easiest way for your skills and knowledge to be recognised and the only certificate recognised by maritime authorities overseas other than the full RYA practical courses for sailing, motor cursing and powerboating.

ICCs are awarded following a short practical and knowledge assessment with us and can be conducted on your boat as own boat tuition or on our vessels.

Which countries require or accept an ICC?

22 of the 56 UNEC member nations have formally applied Resolution 40 (though some with various caveats). These should formally accept an ICC, namely: Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland,  Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom. In practice however, many local police, harbour masters and other local authorities know of and accept an ICC as sufficient proof of competence even when there is no legal obligation for them to do so. The holder’s photograph and official wording translated into nine different languages on the certificate assist with its wide acceptance. We however make no guarantee that an ICC will be accepted by a particular nation or individual official. Travellers are recommended to gain clarification in writing regarding what certification is required before you go boating.

If you are in any doubt about which is the right course for you, discuss your reasons for taking part in these courses with one of the Elements staff and we can advise you of your best path to success.

All our powerboat courses are run on demand and are available Nationwide

Tuition is provided for adults, however we can provide training for RYA powerboat certificates to children aged 14-16 years and they will be issued with an endorsed certificate.

All relevant RYA handbooks and log books can be purchased from Elements Watersports.
